Jessica Rothe provides an update on 'Happy Death Day 3': "We're awaiting Blumhouse & Universal to align their plans.

Jessica Rothe provides an update on the potential third installment of Happy Death Day, expressing her readiness to confront the Bayfield Babyface Killer once more.

During a recent interview while promoting her new film Boy Kills World, Rothe disclosed that director Chris Landon has crafted an idea for the third film in the franchise.

“Chris Landon has the whole thing figured out,” Rothe revealed to Screen Geek. “We just need to wait for Blumhouse and Universal to align their plans. But my fingers are crossed.”

She continued, emphasizing the significance of concluding or possibly reinventing the character and franchise with a final chapter for Tree Gelbman.

“Tree [Gelbman] deserves her third and final chapter to bring that incredible character and franchise to a close or a new beginning,” she added.

Happy Death Day, released in 2017, follows college student Tree Gelbman as she repeatedly relives her birthday, attempting to uncover her killer to evade death.

The film achieved significant success, grossing over $125M worldwide on a budget of $4.8M.

Subsequently, the sequel, Happy Death Day 2U, debuted in 2019, accumulating $64.6M at the box office with a $9M budget.

In a prior interview in October 2020, Landon hinted at the potential title for the third film, Happy Death Day To Us, and suggested that the narrative would diverge from the previous films' single-day setting.

“We’re not up against a really difficult clock right now. The other movies were hard because they were set on the exact same day, so everybody had to look the same, be the same. The pressure is off there,” Landon elaborated.
