Mom Beyoncé and Blue Ivy will appear in the upcoming animated "Lion King" prequel.

On Monday, the teaser trailer for "Mufasa: The Lion King" debuted, generating excitement not only for its content but also for its cast lineup.

This photorealistic-animated prequel to the beloved 1994 film "The Lion King" reunites several stars from the 2019 remake directed by Jon Favreau. Returning to voice their characters are John Kani as Rafiki, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, Donald Glover as Simba, and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala. Adding to the star-studded roster is Blue Ivy Carter, Beyoncé's 12-year-old daughter, lending her voice to Kiara, the offspring of King Simba and Queen Nala.

The trailer opens with a poignant voiceover by Rafiki, setting the stage for the epic tale: "This story begins far beyond the mountains and the shadows, on the other side of the light. A lion was born without a drop of nobility in his blood. A lion who would change our lives forever."

Audiences are then introduced to a young Mufasa, portrayed in flashback scenes, with James Earl Jones reprising his role as the voice of the wise king from the original animated film.

Directed by Barry Jenkins, "Mufasa: The Lion King" follows Rafiki as he narrates the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, while Timon and Pumbaa provide their trademark humor. The story delves into Mufasa's origins as an orphaned cub who encounters a fellow lion named Taka, igniting a transformative journey for a group of unlikely allies. As they navigate trials and confront a formidable enemy, their bonds will be tested, leading to an unforgettable adventure.

Joining the ensemble cast are Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Taka, Thandiwe Newton as Taka's mother, Eshe, Anika Noni Rose as Mufasa's mother, Afia, and Keith David as Mufasa's father, Masego.

Set to hit theaters on December 20th, "Mufasa: The Lion King" promises to captivate audiences with its rich storytelling and stunning animation.
