Have you sensed it? New Jersey feels shook by another earthquake.

After a magnitude 4.8 earthquake shook New Jersey and reverberated throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, followed by numerous aftershocks and smaller tremors, another seismic event has unsettled the state.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported a magnitude 2.6 earthquake striking near Gladstone, Somerset County, just after 7 a.m. ET on May 1, 2024.

By late morning, over 550 individuals had reported feeling the quake, which occurred approximately 5 kilometers beneath the surface, according to the USGS.

This recent seismic activity follows a magnitude 2.9 earthquake that also hit Gladstone over the weekend, and a 1.9 magnitude quake in nearby Califon, New Jersey, mere hours prior to Wednesday's tremor, as per the USGS.

In the aftermath of the magnitude 4.8 quake on April 5, a series of aftershocks and tremors have been documented by the USGS.

While earthquakes are infrequent in the eastern United States, their impact tends to be more widely felt and stronger than those in the western region, attributed in part to the presence of older rocks and formations, as explained by the USGS.
