In response to the comedian's Netflix movie "Unfrosted," slated for release on May 3, the beloved toaster pastry brand has released a witty short film on YouTube. Seinfeld's film, a fictional take on the creation of Pop-Tarts and his directorial debut, prompted Pop-Tarts to respond with a satirical video.
Titled "Unfrosted – a comedy about Pop-Tarts, but the joke is on Jerry," the short film humorously addresses Seinfeld's unauthorized use of trademarked breakfast products in his movie. It opens with Seinfeld entering a conference room at Pop-Tarts headquarters in Battle Creek, Mich., where he is greeted by the company's president, Kelman P. Gasworth.
The exchange begins lightheartedly, with Seinfeld indulging in Pop-Tarts as Gasworth raises concerns about trademark infringement. The tension escalates as Gasworth reveals his response: holding Seinfeld's characters, including Schmoopie, Jackie Chiles, and the Soup Nazi, hostage.
In a playful banter, Seinfeld compares the situation to his experiences with idea theft in the entertainment industry, even referencing "Friends." Gasworth retaliates by declaring himself the new comedian and attempting a stand-up routine, to Seinfeld's amusement.
The video ends with a nod to the release of "Unfrosted" on May 3, emphasizing it's "Not brought to you by Pop-Tarts." Despite the sassy tone, the clip is intended as playful banter to celebrate both the movie's release and Pop-Tarts' 60th anniversary.
Additionally, Netflix released a short film featuring Seinfeld pitching "Unfrosted" to documentary maker Ken Burns, highlighting the movie's star-studded cast and its premiere on April 30. Seinfeld's family joined him at the Los Angeles premiere, adding to the excitement surrounding the film's debut.
